How we do it

Information Services (IS) approaches all its projects with a standard methodology to ensure quality, manage resources wisely, and produce finished projects to the satisfaction and standards of our clients. Our methodology is known as the IS Technology Life Cycle (TLC). If you would like to work with IS on a project for your area or for the benefit of the university, your project will conform to the TLC methodology.

To initiate a new project:
  1. Contact Cara Kaufmann, director of IS-Development. She can orient you to the Technology Life Cycle and answer preliminary questions that you may have. Be sure to review the TLC site on your own and download the necessary document templates.

  2. Complete the IS Request Form and send it to ISProjectRequest@depaul.edu. A staff member will contact you to get preliminary requirements and work with you to complete the documents necessary for review, including a cost estimate.

  3. Once the preliminary requirements and cost estimate are complete, IS staff will review to make sure that the project aligns with the direction of DePaul and IS. (If it is determined that a project cannot be approved or accommodated, this will be communicated as soon as a determination is made.)

  4. After the architecture review has been completed, IS will work with the requestor and the Project Advisory Committee to determine an appropriate time frame for the project's completion.

  5. Once the project is approved, you/your department will select a team leader to represent your department. Your team leader will work with an IS project manager to begin the project, including the development of a detailed project charter.

  6. Your team leader will be involved as a key participant throughout the duration of the project. Anyone who works on the project should be familiar with the TLC methodology.
