Install Software in Labs
- If you need software in the computer labs, please start by calling the
Technology Contact Center (TCC) at Ext. 2-8765. Please note, beta software
cannot be installed or tested in any Information Services labs or classrooms.
- Technology Contact Center (TCC) determines if DePaul University already owns a license for that software
as per the Software Licensing Policy.
- If the software is already licensed (FrontPage, Publisher, SPSS, Minitab, SAS or Maple), Technology Contact Center (TCC) will give you information about how to access the software.
- If the software is not licensed, then Technology Contact Center (TCC) can help you determine whether the software is freeware (public domain) or if a license must be purchased.
- If the software is freeware, the faculty/staff contacts the manufacturer/distributor for permission to install the software. (Permissions are still necessary even for freeware.)
- Or, the license agreement (EULA) must state that the software is free for academic use.
- If a license must be purchased, then you must follow the standard budget procedures for your department/college.
- A quote must be obtained. The following table lists contact information for DePaul's preferred suppliers.
The budget manager purchases the software following departmental guidelines.
-
Once the faculty/staff has permission or license (either via EULA, license, permission
letter or permission e-mail), the software and permission or license can be delivered
to the Software Consultant Diane Tarkowski
dtarkows@depaul.edu.
- This permission must be kept in your files. You will need to
provide it if DePaul is ever audited regarding software licensing.
- Field Services installs software on a test computer and tests it for usability and compatibility with current programs.
- Once usability and compatibility have been tested, an installation package is created and is tested for usability and compatibility.
- Once the installation package is certified for use, the installation package is run on all of the relevant computers.
- A message is sent to the requestor to confirm that the installation is completed. Note: The process takes at least two weeks.
