U-Pass Fees & Details

How will I be charged?

Each eligible student will be charged a nominal fee automatically to his/her tuition bill. This helps defray CTA's costs for offering the program. You will be charged even if you do not pick up your U-Pass. Failure to pick up the U-Pass does not eliminate the charge.

Student Population Fee Per Student 2007-2008
Undergraduates $57.50 per quarter
Graduate students in participating programs $57.50 per quarter
College of Law $88.75 per semester

How do I get it?

Eligible students are responsible for picking up their U-Passes. All students MUST present a valid DePaul ID in order to receive a U-Pass.

U-Pass distribution days/times are announced at the beginning of Fall, Winter, and Spring quarters. Look for signs on campus and e-mail notices outlining date and time specifics.

Fee Exceptions

There are a limited number of situations in which a student can receive a refund for his or her U-Pass:
  • Studying abroad for the term in which the fee is applied

  • Teaching for the term in which the fee is applied

  • Physically disabled and therefore not able to use public transportation

  • Taking classes only at the suburbs where no CTA system exists

  • Taking all classes through distance learning options.

Due to our contract with CTA, the reasons listed above are the only situations in which a refund can be granted. If a student meets one of these exceptions, he or she should contact upass@depaul.edu, and an administrator will work with Student Financial Accounts to provide the appropriate resolution.

Lost, stolen, or damaged U-Passes

Please download CTA's Use & Replacement guide for more information.

If your U-Pass is damaged:

  • On the Bus: If CTA fare equipment will not read your U-Pass, the bus operator will let you complete your ride for free.

  • At the Rail Station: Present your U-Pass to the customer assistant to have it inspected.
To replace your lost/stolen or damaged card:

  1. Bring your valid school ID and $35 to CTA headquarters at 567 W. Lake St., 2nd floor (CTA Green line stop at Clinton). Open Monday-Friday, 8am-4:30 pm.

  2. Please specify either Loop or Lincoln Park campus when requesting your replacement pass with the CTA.

  3. A replacement U-Pass will be issued within 5-7 business days and sent to DePaul's ID Services office.

    1. CTA will replace lost or stolen U-Pass cards only ONCE per academic year.
    2. CTA will process the pass within 5-7 business days and will send the replacement pass to DePaul University at ID Card Services.
